As the journey of one quarterback from Texas ends at OSU, another begins. The Buckeyes landed a commitment from three-star Lake Travis quarterback Matthew Baldwin. Baldwin is a 6-2, 195 pound pro-style quarterback, who chose the Buckeyes after decommitting from Colorado State in November. Baldwin threw for 41 touchdowns against 6 interceptions accounting for more than 3,300 yards his senior season. He’s also an extremely accurate quarterback, completing more than 71% of his passes. Watch his senior season highlight video here.
The pledge raises questions about where things stand with heralded four-star Georgia quarterback Emory Jones. Jones committed to the Buckeyes in June of 2016 but has continued to visit schools, including Alabama and Auburn this fall. Urban Meyer and Ryan Day visited Jones at home on Dec. 5, but Jones may have been surprised by the commitment, based on his reaction on Twitter.
Meyer typically aims to take one quarterback in each recruiting class. The Buckeyes have two pledges in the 2018 class. For now.
