Fickell to Coach Cincinnati (After Playoffs)

By Jim Baird | AM Football Briefing | Sunday, December 11

Fickell to Coach Cincinnati (After Playoffs): The deal is done, the ink is dry the 42nd head coach at Cincinnati will be Luke Fickell. Fickell will take the helm after Ohio State’s playoff run is over. It will be a strange sight to see Fickell, who has spent 17 of the past 18 years coaching the Buckeyes, on another sideline. After his stellar playing career for Ohio State, Fickell joined OSU’s coaching staff as a GA in 1999, then went on to coach the defensive line, special teams, and linebackers. He eventually rose to the role of defensive coordinator, and in 2011 interim head coach. Urban released a statement praising Fickell’s work at OSU, “Today is a proud day for Ohio State and Buckeye Nation with the news of Luke Fickell becoming head coach at the University of Cincinnati. Few have invested as much time and effort and passion into Ohio State and its football program than Luke. We all knew this day was coming. Now that it is upon us, I want to thank Luke for being such a terrific coach, mentor and person. And I wish him, Amy and their young family all the best as they begin this new journey.”

Can the Cleveland Browns extend their winless streak to 0-13? We’ll find out today at 1:00 as they host Cincinnati (4-7-1). The Bengals are a 5.5 point favorite.
