Early Playoff Projections: Ohio State vs. Clemson in Fiesta Bowl? It’s decision weekend for the College Football Playoff. The conventional wisdom is that Alabama will be No. 1 (unless a meteor hits Tuscaloosa), Ohio State is likely No. 2, while Washington punched their ticket at No. 4 with a dominating victory last night 41-10 over No. 8 Colorado. That leaves one final spot — and, if Clemson wins tonight in a game they are favored by 10.5 points in against No. 23 Virginia Tech, they are in. A Clemson win would likely set up a showdown between the No. 2 Buckeyes and No. 3 Tigers in the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale. If Clemson losses though? The most likely scenario is that the winner of the Big 10 Championship game is in. That would likely slot the Buckeyes against Washington or set up a rematch against Penn State or Wisconsin in Arizona. There’s a small chance too — in wake of a Clemson loss, that the committee would bump Michigan into the field and not the Big 10 winner, creating a rematch of The Game. Either way we won’t have to wait long to find out, Clemson vs. Virginia Tech is at 8:00 PM EST, while the playoff committee announces the playoff field tomorrow at noon on ESPN.
Happy Championship Saturday. Everything is a little better in Annapolis, particularly the crab cakes. I’m in Memorial Stadium today as Navy (9-2) hosts Temple (9-3) in the AAC Championship game.
