Buckeye Daily – Welcome to Quarterback U

LEADING THE DAY: WELCOME TO QUARTERBACK U; HEALTHY BUT INEXPERIENCED AT WR; A PEEK AT PRACTICE
QUARTERBACK (OS)U: Ohio State 2018 commitment Emory Jones received his fifth star from Rivals yesterday, Eric Seger with the story and Matt Brown examines OSU’s QB depth here. Is Ohio State quickly becoming Quarterback U? You can make a pretty good case given the talent in and coming to Columbus. Let’s start with the talent in Columbus: JT Barrett is amazingly still only a redshirt junior. Redshirt freshman Joe Burrow lit up the spring game throwing two of his three touchdowns to redshirt freshman Torrance Gibson, who was recruited as a top dual-threat quarterback and now transitioned to receiver to get his athleticism on the field. The Buckeyes welcome incoming freshman, highly touted pro-style quarterback Dwayne Haskins. How good is Haskins? Well, Urban called him “the best quarterback at his age, I’ve ever seen.” And don’t forget about 6-4 dual threat redshirt sophomore Stephen Collier, who is out for 2016 rehabbing a torn ACL. But the incoming pipeline has the potential to be just as talented, maybe even better. For 2017, OSU has pledges from Tate Martell, the top dual threat QB — who has been compared to a Fran Tarkenton and Brett Farve clone — and three-star prostyle prospect Danny Clark. Add in five-star Jones in 2018 and you’re cooking with gas for the next two recruiting classes. For a program that lost Cardale Jones and Braxton Miller to the NFL last year, well — to paraphrase The Who, the kids are alright.

HEALTHY, BUT INEXPERIENCED AT WR: Sunday’s practice welcomed back wide receivers Noah Brown and Corey Smith from injury last season, Blake Williams with the story. Tim May has more on the inexperience at wide receiver, where the Buckeye’s 11 scholarship players (excluding those playing the H) have a grand total of six receptions.

It’s Tuesday, we’re one day closer to kickoff  so we’re alright too.
